Michelle Roberts Artist Statement.

"My work focuses on the relationship between the ephemeral and permanent elements existing within the landscape.  Making drawings of transient reflections and shadows, my work attempts to echo the deceptive narratives of nature. Through experimentation with different media and surfaces, I endeavour to reverberate these fleeting moments. My drawings are transferred onto sculptural surfaces and a tension between fragility and strength is created. I make etching ink and tempera from pigment I gather on my travels including iron ore, charcoal and rock. Each pigment holds its own narrative and a very unique surface. Each pigment is vital to translate the ephemeral moments I carefully capture from nature." Michelle Roberts December 2011
