A.Gallery is Moving On.......
Dear
A.Gallery Friends.
It
is with a heavy heart that we write the following letter.
After
two years at our lovely Saltmarket gallery, we are having to move on
due to a situation out with our control.
Over
the past few weeks there has been a dramatic change to the Saltmarket
area due to the residential buildings above all retail units
receiving cosmetic changes and roof repairs. Due to this work,
Glasgow City Council is demanding that all trading units pay a
substantial amount in order to complete the works, although it does
not directly affect us.
The
majority of residents within the Saltmarket and the surrounding areas
are somewhat exempt from paying towards this 'cosmetic' repair and
will not be contributing to the fee of this work. Numerous business
including ourselves, have been fighting against this huge expense for
months, but the building work is going ahead. Already, numerous
surrounding business have moved due to the cost and trade has been
extremely disrupted. I am sure you can agree that this is an unfair
situation.
This has affected A.Gallery in a monumental way as the cost of repairs are completely unaffordable as we are still a young business, resulting in our business moving to alternative premises.
This has affected A.Gallery in a monumental way as the cost of repairs are completely unaffordable as we are still a young business, resulting in our business moving to alternative premises.
Due
to this unexpected move, A.Gallery is having to close for a period
before the end of this year and re locate to more suitable premises
in Spring time 2014. If the arranged works were to start before we
move, we would take that cost with us and we are not prepared to do
that. This decision had not come easy, but we have to think about
what is best for our business and our loyal customers in the long
run.
We are proud and excited to say the last exhibition of this year will be Sofie Fischer-Rasmussen's 'PARADISE' opening Thursday 17th October – Saturday 16th Novemeber.
We
will cease to trade on Saturday
30th November.
Fear
not as this is not the end of A.Galleyr!
We
will be creating an brand new online gallery showcasing works form
all of our new graduate and emerging artists that will be available
to buy via the website. We will keep you up to date with A.Gallery
progress on our social media sites, and will be popping up all over
Glasgow with temporary exhibitions and events.
A.Gallery
has never been stronger and we are determined to re open bigger and
better with larger exhibition space and on site artistic facilities.
We will be back with great exhibitions and events next year.
We
would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your
contribution to our business. Over the past two years we have built a
strong family at A.Gallery, meeting influential business, inspiring
artists and creating some amazing friendships that will last a
lifetime.
We
will miss our Saltmarket gallery, but we look forward to re locating
with two years worth of amazing memories of our first artistic
venture. We were determined to bring a new lease of life to the
Saltmarket area of Glasgow, which we did with great success, but
everything happens for a reason and we look forward to moving into
our new home next year.
Thank
you to everyone who has been involved with A.Gallery and we shall see
you all very soon!
Sincerely
Jennifer
Fergie & Kenny Creanor.

A.Gallery welcomes you to PARADISE
An exhibition by Sofie Fischer Rasmussen. 'PARADISE' is part of a personal struggle experienced by the artist, in keeping real life in balance with the task of becoming a professional working artist. OPENING NIGHT: Thursday 17th October 6pm - 8:30pm 100 Limited edition posters will be available from opening night. Sofie was born in a tiny village on the island Fyn, which is currently within the geographical reaches of Denmark, however she considers herself more of a Scandinavian than Danish as such.
